Accepting the Unexpected: Connecting with Your Birth Story in Meaningful Ways
Next Meeting JUne 7th 10am-noon
(Arrive and depart at times convenient for you)
Depsite careful planning, experiences during childbirth are sometimes different than
parents expect. When conflict with healthcare providers, unexpected health
circumstances, and lack of support undermine the birthing woman and baby's rights
to a calm birth dissapointment and anger can result, even when the baby is born
healthy. Family members will often tell a mom, "Your baby is healthy and happy so,
you should be happy too." The wellbeing of a new mom is more complex than simply
having a healthy child.
Accepting the Unexpected is a support group where women share their birth
experiences without fear of being judged or misunderstood. This is a space where
sadness, frustration, anger, disappointment are recognized as normal emotional
responses after an unexpected birth experience. Baby's are welcome to join mom as
she heals the experience they shared. Whether 2 weeks or 20 years have passed, all
moms in need of healing and community are welcome.
Rebecca McCloskey, LCSW and Samantha Moody, CH facilitate this group. Accepting
the Unexpected is a mutual self-help and support group and is not intended to
provide the diagnosis or treatment of mental illness. There is no charge for attending.
Please contact Rebecca 973-876-4283 prior to attending your first meeting.
